Kindergarten Diaries - Chapter 4

C has a red notebook that he brings home every evening with the papers that we need to go over. There is a paper in the binder that has a list of bad behaviors that Mrs L can check mark if there is a problem. If he is good he gets a stamp on the page for that day. Since he's been in school we've only had one day that had a check mark on it, so I think he's doing pretty good. Yesterday he came home with a stamp, but Mrs L had written on the paper that she wanted J to stop by sometime on Thursday. We didn't think he had gotten in trouble and we couldn't get any information out of him so we speculated off and on all evening. Maybe she was going to tell us he was the smartest kindergartner she'd ever taught????J was finally able to talk to her this afternoon and this is what the problem was....

They have tests called benchmarks that they have to take every so often. Wednesday was a benchmark testing day. I guess C tested in the middle. Mrs L wanted to talk to J because the reason why he tested lower than he should've of is because of his test anxiety. She said he turned white as a ghost and she thought his knees were going to buckle. He knew the answers, he just completely freaked out and couldn't give the correct answers. I think the test had to do with vowel sounds. What are we going to do with him? J thinks he'll grow out of it after this year. I hope so or we are all going to have a miserable time during C's time in school. I think I would rather have needed to deal with him being in trouble instead of having to deal with his anxiety. Mrs L wants us to practice with him more, but I honestly don't think it will help him much. His personality is too much like mine...which is what really concerns me.
