Hungry??

Over the last few days Camryn has really been interested in watching us eat. I forgot how pitiful babies can look when they do that.... and how guilty it makes me feel. Even though I know she can't even eat it yet. It doesn't seem to bother Cade. He teased her with pizza today.

Wednesday

Wednesday was a big day for Camryn.  I have to post it because I'm afraid I'll forget it.  I was telling a friend from work and I got confused on what day it even was.  I'm positive it was Wednesday....well, almost positive....

That morning Jay had to drive a bus so it was just the 3 of us.  I was burning up that morning so I was in the family room under the fan putting on my makeup.  Does anyone else feel like their skin is melting off of them sometimes in the morning when they are getting ready?  Is is just me?  Anyway,  I put Camryn on her jungle gym thing on her tummy and she popped over to her back.  I had a little party for her.  I clapped and got all excited.  Cade wanted to know what was going on so we turned her back over and she performed on command again.  Then we both clapped for her.  She loved it....and we haven't been able to get her to do it since.  She won't do it again for Jay.  When I dropped her off that morning I told Stacy we had a big day already.

When I picked her up Stacy said Camryn's day had gotten bigger.  Stacy found a tooth!  I can't get a picture of it because it's so tiny and she has her tongue over it all the time.  But I can feel it.

Just some stuff from the past week....

Last week Jay went to National FFA Convention with around 30 HS kids.  Lyle, his teaching partner, left a few days earlier with the boys competing in the national forestry competition.  Jay was the lucky one who got to ride a school bus to Indianapolis with the HS kids along with Jania, Lyle's wife. We didn't talk much while Jay was gone.  When they were at the hotel he was busy and when they were on the bus it was too loud.  But I did get a text Friday evening, along with half of Lawrence county I'm sure - Lyle's forestry team won 1st place!!!!  That is very exciting!  Lyle and Jay both work very hard and spend countless hours away from home with other people's kids.  I think some people don't realize exactly how much time they spend away from home (and their own children).  I love it when it pays off and others can see exactly how hard they do work.

While Jay was gone I had to go on an overnight work trip.  Thankfully my mom was able to go so I got to take Camryn.  I didn't want to wrestle the pack-n-play so Camryn slept with me in the big bed.  Actually, the pack-n-play wouldn't have fit in the car.  If anyone thinks that so many people have SUV's now because we are a spoiled gas guzzling society, they obviously don't have kids and can drive a Prius.  I put Camryn's stroller and mom's suitcase in the trunk.  That's all that would fit there.  In the back seat I had my suitcase on the floorboard behind my seat and my purse in the backseat.  On the other side of Camryn we had her diaper bag and another bag with extra bottles and formula.  Somehow we did manage to fit her in the car, but it was tight.  Oh for the days of those enormous 2 door cars in the 80's.  You know the kind where the backseat was the size of a small playground and shutting the door was like closing the hatch on a tank.  Those were the good old days....but my car is paid for so we are just going to have to keep squeezing in it, no matter how uncomfortable we all are....I digressed there - the size of my car is not what I had planned to write about.   Camryn and I shared a bed while we were gone.  I think I'm a million times more relaxed with her in every other way, except her bed time routine.  Somehow Cade got ruined at a young age and I am determined to not ruin Camryn.  I love my kids.  But I love them even more when they are in their beds and I'm in mine.  Nine years of waking up drenched in sweat, pushed up close to Jay with my body so twisted it feels like my kidney is in knots and it taking a moment for me to figure out why - Cade has once again got in our bed - will do that to anyone.  I thought things might still be ok because Camryn looked me up and down all Thursday night.  She had a look on her face that said "why are you in my bed".  When she woke up the next morning she looked almost irritated to find me still in her bed.  I figured we had lucked out and she wouldn't have issues going back to her own bed when we got home.  Prior to last week I think she's only gotten back out of bed once or twice after I put her down her whole life.  The last two nights she's cried after I've put her to bed.  This has required me to put her in our bed until she falls asleep then I transfer her to her bed.  It doesn't take long to ruin them does it? I really hope she grows out of this phase.  I'm not sure my kidney has another 9 years of being twisted left in it.

Cade has decided he's going to pick up walnuts to earn some money.  Yesterday he filled up a feed sack.  Jay thought that was about 50 lbs of walnuts.  We were trying to take a little nap yesterday.  At least as much of a nap as you can get with a 4.5 month old.  I had to get up anyway so I went outside to check on Cade.  I caught him lugging the sack of walnuts through the yard.  He told me the story of what he was doing....he was in the field with the show heifer and bull picking up walnuts.  The new heifer was so friendly she walked right up to him and licked him.  Then he said he was using his pocketknife to cut the stems off of the walnuts.  I told him to be careful and then went back inside.  It dawned on me this morning, when I saw the pocketknife on the counter, that nothing  Cade told me actually registered with me.  Cade was in a pen with the cattle, by himself, using a knife.  He freely told me what he was doing.  I patted him on the head and went back inside.  Yeah, I'm up for mother of the year.  Jay's also up for father of the year.  He's the one who gave Cade the pocketknife.  I guess though I should be thankful.  At least the pocketknife was on the kitchen counter....not still in his pocket on it's way to school.

Three Month Photo Shoot

We had Camryn's 3 month pictures taken at the end of August.  She wasn't quite 3 months, but I wanted to do them before I went back to work.  We just had them taken at Sears.  I was happy with how they turned out.  Here are some of my favorites....
Not sure how she was able to hold her head up under the weight of that bow.....

4th Month

I have been having blog writers block lately.  I think life has gotten (wonderfully) boring with not having all the highs and lows of the adoption drama constantly.  I guess I don't have much to say :).  Also, I've got so many posts that need pictures it's ridiculous.  I never seem to have everything I need at the right time to get those pictures posted.  I have time, but Jay's laptop isn't home...Jay's laptop is there and Camryn is fussy, etc.  Finally this morning I got some pictures to where I could actually use them.  I guess there are benefits to a 4:30 am wake up call.  Hopefully I can get some things caught up over the next few days.

I'll start with Camryn turning 4 months on October 3!  I acutally started this post on the 3rd and it's taken me 10 days to finish it.  Oh well. I tried!Camryn went for her 4 month check up and shots last Friday.  She weighed 15 lbs 4 oz and was 25 3/4 long.  She was in the 85% for weight and 99% for length.  Right now she is wearing 3-6 months clothes.  I've even put some 9 month knit pants on her that fit fine.  I've boxed up all the 0-3 month stuff.  Camryn had issues with the doctor touching her at her appointment.  Actually she acted worse for that than she did the shots.  Later that evening Jim tried to hold her and she didn't want any of that either.  She is either starting to develop some seperation anxiety or she has a problem with men?  She's also not a huge fan of her dad right now so who knows.  That could all change tomorrow.  Babies can be very fickle!

Over the last month we made great strides in eating off of a spoon.  I finally gave up on the cereal thing.  She takes it before bed in her bottle.  I went straight to apples and she took it fairly well.  The first time was a bit of a shock (above picture), but now she's eating like a champ.  So far she's had apples, sweet potatoes and green beans.  Even the green beans went down really well.  She is also such a neat eater.  I hope that continues.
As for her development this month she has mastered the Bumbo.  Too bad those weren't around when Cade was a baby.  I think it could've saved us a lot of frustration.  He would've loved it.  I wouldn't say that Camryn loves it, but she tolerates it pretty well.  We use it mostly in the mornings.  She sits on the floor and watches me put on my makeup.  Then I put her on the bathroom counter and she looks at herself in the mirror while I fix my hair.  It seems to keep her pretty content.  She still hasn't rolled over yet, and seems to have no interest in doing so.  I would've freaked out if Cade hadn't rolled over yet, but I'm not concerned.  I don't know that she is put down enough to do that.  She may not walk until she goes to school.

One of her absolute favorite things is bath time.  I had a little tub I used with Cade and I started using it with her, but she didn't like it.  Then I put her in the tub without it and she went crazy!  So I got rid of the tub and this is how we do baths.  Even on her fussiest nights, we can put her in the bath and she is great...until you take her out.

Of course we had to get the traditional picture with Cade's head in there!  This was before church one Sunday.  I love this dress.  Actually I'm quite obsessed with smocked dresses right now.   She was such pink smocked sweetness that day.  Then after church we took some friends out for lunch and she had the worst public diaper 911 she's ever had.  It actually ranked as #2 on my list of worst away from home diaper disasters ever.

And a sweet smile to end her 4 month update!

Cade's Big Adventure

Cade had some big adventures this past weekend. For the last several years Papa Jim and Memo have helped him Jay out by buying something at the Journagen Sale that he can show for the next year. For those who aren’t from around here – Journagen Ranch raises Herefords and has donated a very large sum of money to the MSU Ag Department. They have built some very nice facilities at the school farm and they hold this sale there every fall. Anyone who hasn’t seen the school farm in the past year should drive by it. It doesn’t look at all like it did back in the 90’s! Anyway…this year they decided to have a cattle show the night before the sale. Any kid who bought something at the sale last year could bring the heifer/bull back for a special show. Every kid would get a $250 credit to use at the sell. The Grand Champion would get an additional $1000 and the Reserve would get and additional $500. Of course Cade went because $250 is $250! And who knows what else….

That started Cade’s big weekend. Papa Jim got Cade out of school early so they could get Bocephus ready and then get him to Springfield. Cade had a big time playing with some of the other kids who were at the show that afternoon. Cade took up with a boy from Illinois about his age. They talked like they’d known each other for years. Camryn and I made it to the show that evening to watch Cade. He ended up getting Reserve with the bull! He did such a good job and we were so proud of him. I didn’t get any pictures because I had my hands full with Camryn and the video camera, but he looked so grown up. Papa Jim was able to use Cade’s $750 credit on Saturday towards a heifer that Jay was thrilled about. Jay has spent less time mulling over some of our life decisions than he did checking out those cattle Wednesday night and then again Friday morning. But everyone was happy with how the show and sale turned out.

Friday night Cade stayed with Papa Jim and Memo and then Saturday he went to Fayetteville with Terry. Jay decided that with Farm Fest and 2 home football games within a 4 day period that a 6:30 pm game in Fayetteville would not be a good idea. So Cade used his ticket for the Arkansas/Auburn game. We were a little unsure of how it would go. I didn’t know how Terry would adjust to taking a 9 year old someplace and I had no idea how the 9 year old would behave. But, like all children are – Cade was probably 1 million times better for Terry than he would’ve been for us. The last time we took Cade to a game was 2008. I fed him something every quarter to keep him occupied. Finally at the start of the 4th I decided we were out of money and we headed back to truck to wait for the game to be over. Three years can make a huge difference! I still think he ate something every quarter – I lost track of everything Terry texted Jay but there was some beef jerky, pizza, 2 waters and a souvenir mug of Coke consumed over the course of the evening. And the highlight of Cade’s evening – he was on the Jumbo Tron! Terry got a picture of the guy with the camera getting Cade. I do wish I could’ve seen that.

I definitely think this will be one of those great weekends that will stick out in Cade’s mind forever. Last night he said he was tired. I told him if he was going to play with the big boys on the Jumbo Tron that was the price to be paid. He didn’t think it was as funny as I did.

Someone....

Was very happy to see her brother today. Cade had been off having adventures with his Papa Jim and Uncle Terry since Friday. Cade got a huge grin from her when he walked in. The last one is blurry but you can see Camryn's grin.

Go Cards!!

Tonight is Homecoming so that meant today was Spirit Day. Of course Camryn had to get in the action with Cade. But neither of them are going to the game. Cade is showing his bull tonight in Springfield. Camryn has her 4 month check-up and shots in Carthage this afternoon. After her appointment we will be making a flying trip to Springfield to watch Cade. Jay has his own fun this weekend....Parking cars at Farm Fest today thru Sunday (since it's great weather there will be tons of people out
Which means way more opportunities to get cussed out) and football concession stand tonight.

Have a great weekend!
